Inaugural vintage!
An elegant, subtle and aromatic red, quite pale-colored, with a nose dominated by aromas of flowers, cherry pit and wild strawberries, with a touch of spices and (even if many might get annoyed) a Burgundian feeling to it. The sensation on the palate combines acid and chalk, which provides for great length and a tasty, mineral-driven finish. The soils are very shallow, as the content in active limestone is high and the soils are very white. There are some 1,000 bottles produced. The wine had been in barrel since December 2014 and was finally bottled in April 2016. This goes straight to the Rioja champion’s league. It’s accessible now and it feels like it can age with grace. It’s sold separately from the Palacios Remondo range. Unfortunately, it wears a hefty price tag. I could also preview the 2015, which was so juicy and ethereal that it made me think of a Trousseau from Jura! – 96WA
